How does the South Beach Diet treat carbs?

There are a lot of questions now as to how healthy a diet low in carbs really is for you. Sure it will help you to lose a few pounds, maybe even get you down to your ideal weight if you stick to its guidelines, but it may come at a health cosy that many of us are not willing to pay. There is the added concern that most people actually gain more weight back when they start eating carbs again. What is the solution to the diet problem? How can we take off the weight, and keep it off? The answer is simple- you must retrain yourself, you must learn new eating habits that you can live with for years to come. And often times the only way to be successful at any diet is to set goals that are attainable and be willing to lose the weight slowly. Bottom lline is that the best way to reach your goals is to make a lifestyle change and have some patience.

When the South Beach Diet came onto the scene it was initially developed by a cardiologist that wanted to find a way for his heart patients to lose weight in a way that would not put them at risk. this diet claims not to be low-fat or low-carbs. Rather it teaches you to better balance your food. It teaches people to distinguish between good and bad fats as well as good and bad carbs. The first two weeks of the diet are similar to the Atkins diet in that all carbs and fruit are off limits, along with sweets and alcohol, but after the initial two week period they will be reintroduced.

A lifestyle change

The next phase of the diet allows you to indulge in many of the foods that you love, including breads, potatoes, and pastas, but they will teach you to eat only the carbs that are good for the body. During the next stage you can also drink wine, eat chocolate, and eat fruit. You will remain in this stage until you have reached our target weight after which time you will be able to reintroduce even more foods. But the diet will have taught you what foods are contain good fats and carbs.
